Man United exploring possibility of using Aaron Wan-Bissaka at centre-back

Man United need a centre-back

Manchester United need to strengthen in a number of areas if they wish to properly challenge for the Premier League title.

One of the most obvious areas in need of improving is central defence.

Harry Maguire is a solid defender and up there with some of the Premier League’s best on his day.

However, outside of Maguire, United’s options at centre-half are really not up to scratch – something which has been made even clearer during the Englishman’s recent spell on the sidelines.

Wan-Bissaka at centre-back?

So, Man United fans are no doubt expecting their side to dip into the market to help find a suitable partner for Harry Maguire.

However, though that could still happen, it appears United may be exploring another way of strengthening their centre-back spot.

Since joining the Manchester powerhouse from Crystal Palace, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been one of United’s more consistent players.

His ability in the final third is perhaps not as impressive as other English right-backs, but he is extremely solid defensively.

And now, according to the Sun, the Red Devils are thinking of using AWB at centre-back.

It is added that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to see Wan-Bissaka used in a central role during pre-season to find out if he could handle the position:

Given Wan-Bissaka is United’s only decent senior right-back, moving him to centre-back may seem like an odd decision.

However, United have been quite heavily linked with Kieran Tripper of late and his signing would of course then allow AWB to be used in a central role whilst Tripper fills the void at right-back.
